The New York City Department of environmental protection and the New York City Department of design and construction (DDC) announced that they are ready to carry out a $34 million project to upgrade the water supply system in the Bronx District of New York City. The project will construct two new water transmission tunnels under Eastchester Bay. So as to improve the water consumption of the people in the area.
The project plans to use horizontal directional drilling technology + diameter expansion to complete the tunnel. In addition to the two 2000 foot tunnels, the project also includes the construction of a receiving shaft in the Bronx and a pipeline connected to the local water distribution system.
